Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies is India’s official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards for the Finest Worldwide Function Movie class. The movie will compete for the Finest Worldwide Function Movie Oscar, a class which was beforehand referred to as Finest International Movie. Actress Nitanshi Goel, who famously starred as Phool within the movie, shared a submit with the movie’s director Kiran Rao on Instagram. Taking a leaf from the movie’s dialogue, the actress wrote in her caption, “Phool, English mein bataayein? Feeling very glad and grateful that Laapataa Girls is India’s official entry for Oscars 2025! Kalaakand banaane ja rahi hun aap sab ke liye. Aapki Phool.”
After the unintentional swap in Laapataa Ladies, Nitanshi’s character Phool begins working at a rail platform tea and snacks kiosk run by Manju Maai (Chhaya Kadam). Hesitant to work at first, Phool begins to experiment and her Kalakand recipe turns into an on the spot hit with the locals. Throughout the course of, she rediscovers herself. In an exclusive interview with NDTV’s Hardika Gupta, the actress mentioned, “I am simply tremendous glad now. The information has taken away all of the sickness and made me dance throughout my room. It was a shock for me. It was a fantastic shock. I used to be like ‘oh my god, is that this actually occurring?’ after which the messages began pouring in. The DMs began pouring in. And the second I learn it, I used to be like ‘omg, that is occurring. Laapataa Girls is trending throughout.”
“All people is celebrating this. Itna pyaara second lag raha hai. It is like a surreal dream. Mumma and I learn it collectively, and the second we learn it, we had our fingers crossed. We wished that our movie could be chosen for the Oscars and now that we see that it’s actually occurring, we each shed some glad tears,” Nitanshi advised NDTV.
